I love being an artist. It's a sweet, enlivening endeavor. The material is terrific: Clay molded in my hands and with small tools. We fire the objects in an electric kiln, glaze them, and then re-fire in a gas kiln. When they're glowing red hot, we pull them out, then drop them into a can filled with newspaper. This process is called raku, and one never knows the final outcome.
