I’ve painted the landscape around Taos for 30 years now. Lately I decided what I really wanted to do was to paint some Very Green paintings, as a sort of antidote to the Southwest Thing. This group of paintings is about my exploration of the color green, and about my love of Trees. Most are my response to the lush Cottonwood forests called Bosques, that grow along the rivers of Northern New Mexico.
These paintings were mostly made on location, in direct response to a particular place. I often go back repeatedly to a place that works well for me, where I really get to know the trees personally. In terms of spirit, Trees are connectors of Heaven and Earth. Humans can do that as well, but trees are the masters of it. Movement within Stillness, Radiance within Shadow -- these are some of the things that the trees talk to me about while I am painting their portraits. I am honored to spend time in their leafy green Presence.
