Karen Tasa

When I am not painting, I feel the best when I can go hiking with friends. Maybe that is why I feel so drawn to landscapes. I have had the opportunity to explore many trails around Taos. I also recently revisited one of my favorite places, the Grand Tetons. Mountains, streams, trees, flowers, and lakes are inspirations to me.

A long time ago, I studied painting in college, mainly in acrylics. Within the last few years I have had the itch to start painting again. I started out with acrylics, but switched to oils about a year ago. I like the way the colors blend and stay fluid longer. I try to depict where a light source is coming from and how it moves through a painting. I also try to include lights and darks as well as contrasting colors to create a dynamic atmosphere.
